Halloween

Trick-or-Treating went very well this year. We drove to the nearest town and took the kids trick-or-treating there this year. Evelyn was Cinderella and Dominic was Darth Vader. They were very excited to get in their costumes. Dominic had been wearing his Darth Vader costume for the past couple of weeks around the house. It was pretty funny because he would run up to us with his mask on and we would act like we were afraid. Then he would pull his mask off and look at us quizzically and say, "it's just me!". He thought we were convinced that he was really Darth Vader!
So we get the kids dressed up, double layers, and insist on bathroom use before we leave. One kid down, but the other insists he does not need to. Stuff the kids in the car seats and drive to town. A couple of parishioners live in town so we stop by one of their houses' first. Evelyn and Dominic start to get into the whole idea of getting candy. Evelyn was a scared of one costume in the beginning - a wolf in grandma's clothes from Little Red Riding Hood. So we crossed the street to trick-or-treat amongst a different bunch of kids. Now several streets away from the first house we started at, Dominic says he has to go to the bathroom. (This is a small town -all the stores are closed, no public bathrooms available and we are miles from our own home.) We split up - Ben takes Evelyn trick-or-treating and I take Dominic back to our parishioners to trick-or-treat for bathroom use. They're very kind people and obliged us. However the last thing you want to hear from your kid when they're bundled in layers and tied up in several costume strings is "get me on quickly!". You parents know what that's like. But worse did not come to worst and we went trick-or-treating some more. After a few more houses Dominic worried that Daddy and Evelyn had left us because we did not find them on the streets. We went back to our dear parishioner's house and waited for them there where they did turn up eventually. After some nice conversation we made our way home with pumpkin buckets full of candy.
And now there's candy in the house...
