Go Into Your Cell and Pray

Desiring greater peace and solitude for more concentrated prayer, Dominic the Younger decided to build himself a cell at some distance from the family church where he was living at the time...

Lately Dominic has been quite busy during our Evening Prayers. He rings the bell to call the family to prayers. Then instead of gathering at the icon corner with the rest of us, he climbs onto our bed and builds himself a little cell out of pillows. He tucks himself inside so that we can't even see him. Still, he does not neglect his duty of ringing the bell during the Lord's Prayer. At the Our Father he sticks his arm up through the roof of his cell and rings the bell for all to hear. When our prayers are completed he comes out of his cell to blow out candles or discuss one of the icons in the prayer corner. After which Dominic the Younger retires to his room and denies himself as much sleep as he can (to his parent's dismay!).

In the picture above, Dominic has found some new building materials to build his humble cell and seclude himself during prayers.

Sounds like my boy :) Today during morning prayers, he was pick wax off of a burning candle. We had to stop him once he became dangerous, though :) It is very hard for little boys to stay still, even if it is just for prayers.

And clearly he's recycling too. When I visited St John the Baptist in Essex in the summer one of the nuns told us they'd been recycling since 1959. I'm glad to see Dominic the Younger in their spirit with his choice of building materials.
