Brunch with Metropolitan PHILIP

Our church hosted a brunch with the Metropolitan that was just for the people of our parish, so that we might have the chance to meet the Metropolitan. The brunch started at eleven o'clock but we made it there late. Evelyn came down with swimmer's ear the night before and the morning of the brunch I had to take her to Urgent Care. She was seen by the doctor and we had just enough time to get home (in Defiance) and pack the car up and drive the hour to Fort Wayne. Somewhere in that short amount of time Evelyn also managed to get a splinter in the bottom of her foot and she could barely walk.

Never the less, we made it there and Father Anthony personally introduced us to the Metropolitan (as he did for everyone). Ben was the first one introduced and blessed by the Metropolitan. Dominic kissed Metropolitan PHILIP's pectoral icon of the Theotokos when he held it out to him. Then Met. PHILIP put a hand around Dominic and kissed him on the top of the head. Dominic quickly wiped it off but it only made the Metropolitan smile and say, "He's going to be a leader." Evelyn was not feeling well and was being very shy so I received the Metropolitan's blessing with her frantically clinging to my side.

When everyone had eaten the Metropolitan gathered the kids of the parish around him at the table. He taught them about St. John Chrysostom and about the twelve disciples. I think Metropolitan PHILIP enjoyed talking with the children.

I was very glad that we got this chance to see the Metropolitan in a more intimate setting. I was very impressed by him and found him to be a very likable and humble person.

Later in the evening we had Great Vespers, which was the beginning of the consecration.
