Easter Eggs & Holy Friday

Friday afternoon we finally found some time to dye Easter eggs. Everyone slept in that morning which was a much needed thing. We were tired from a late night at St. James for the 12 Gospels service on Thursday. Evelyn also ended up being sick in the night but she was fine in the morning! 

This year we used both food coloring and tablets to make the dyes. The food coloring made some really rich colors but it was a more complicated process - not sure it was worth it. The kids made some really nice looking eggs! I also dyed a handful of red eggs with the onion skins we had been saving. 

Friday night we went the Lamentations service. 

Lamentations is one of my favorite services during Holy Week. I was really glad they used the Byzantine music for the Lamentations themselves.
