Local Farm
We had some wonderful weather a few weeks ago when we went to a local family farm to pick out a pumpkin. There are lots of free activities offered so it's very easy to spend an entire afternoon doing everything. There was a corn maze, a hay ride around the pumpkin field with different things hidden along the way to see how many you could spy, big round bales to climb and jump on, and lots of farm animals to see and pet. You can also pick your own pumpkin from the field or buy from the assortment of them near the farm house. We brought home a giant white pumpkin - it's beautiful!
I had a lot of fun watching the kids interact with all the animals. They quickly learned that the chickens preferred blades of grass over their dry corn. Dominic really loved them! We found the goats to be very friendly and ready to eat anything you offered them. They were the most fun to watch, butting heads and clamoring for more hay. Evelyn came to the rescue of a bearded goat who had tangled himself in the twine on the hay bale. After she slipped the twine loose he followed her for a bit along the fence, probably glad to see what else his new friend might offer.
They had a little beagle pup that was so cute! It left the kids dreaming of having their own puppy. The horse was a little shy at first but got over that with several handfuls of hay. I think the horse must have really liked Evelyn because when we left Evelyn gave the horse a hug and it didn't seem to mind in the least. Perhaps it was the ears on her hat that made an impression...?
